It's not really hard to make money as an affiliate marketer. Once you understand the fundamentals of affiliate marketing you should be able to use this knowledge to start making some profits. Here are my top 3 affiliate marketing tips for helping you make money online.

Learn some basic technical skills

If you don't have a technical background, you are at a severe disadvantage compared to other people who do. I am not saying you need to be a coding whiz, but you need to learn at least the basic skills to setup and customize your own blog or install some basic php scripts. Where people struggle most is when something goes wrong and a cryptic message appears on your screen and you have no idea what it means. To combat this, go out and learn some basic html, css and php. The majority of sites on the web are built using these technologies, and it will really benefit you to have at least a working knowledge of how they work. If you live near a bookstore, go hang out there one weekend and read through a few books. Or, just do a Google search and look for some beginner tutorials.

Learn to Write

I know many people hate to write, but this is a really important skill to have. Content is gold for an affiliate marketer, and writing is the key to generating good content. With great writing skills, you can add more content to your blog, publish better reviews, write better headlines, create more compelling sales copy and so much more. Traffic is the key to making money as an affiliate marketer, and your writing is what will enable visitors to find what you are selling. Once you are making money with your own content, then you can start to outsource your writing needs and scale up your earnings.

Test and Then Test some more.

It's rare when the first thing you try just works. That is why you need to run different variations and test them against each other. If you don't test your results with something else, then you have no idea how you are doing. This goes for everything, from keywords and landing pages to headlines and ad copy.

Where I see many affiliate marketers failing is that they are afraid to spend the required money to test. If you are not willing to invest money in your business, then don't become an affiliate marketer. Testing usually requires investing money, time or both and if you are not willing to do this, then you will fail as an affiliate marketer.
